Help Iminah Return to Sevilla for Flamenco Guitar
Hi, I’m Iminah Kani Amal-Hill, a flamenco guitarist based in Victoria, BC. In 2024, I received the inaugural Victor Kolstee Award, which allowed me to study flamenco at the renowned Fundación Cristina Heeren in Sevilla. Flamenco is more than music to me—it’s a way of life and a language for expressing emotion, helping me navigate life’s challenges and connect deeply with others through art.
I’ve now been awarded a Media-Beca (half scholarship) from the Fundación for a full academic year of study. This incredible opportunity will allow me to return to Sevilla to continue learning from master teachers and grow as both an artist and human being—but I need your support to make it happen.
Your contribution will help me dedicate myself fully to flamenco, deepen my skills, and carry forward a living art form.
I’m raising funds to cover the remaining costs of my year in Sevilla. The Media-Beca covers 50% of tuition, but I still need to raise funds for:
-
The remaining 50% of tuition
-
Living expenses while studying in Sevilla
-
Travel costs to and from Spain
- Visa application fees and legal paperwork
Perks: Depending on your contribution, I’m offering personalized thank-you videos, virtual flamenco performances and exclusive updates from my study journey in Sevilla.
If the full goal isn’t reached, your contribution will still go directly toward tuition, living expenses, and travel—getting me as far toward Sevilla as possible.
The Impact
Your support is more than just helping one artist—it helps preserve and carry forward the living tradition of flamenco. Contributions allow me to:
-
Study intensively with world-renowned maestros in Sevilla
-
Perform and share flamenco in my community and beyond
-
Inspire others through music and cultural exchange
With a track record of performing at festivals like the Victoria Flamenco Festival and the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, and having already studied at the Fundación Cristina Heeren in Sevilla, I’m committed to using this opportunity to grow and give back to the flamenco community.
Risks & Challenges
Studying abroad comes with challenges such as securing visas, managing travel logistics, and adapting to intensive training. My previous six months in Sevilla prepared me well to navigate these challenges. I’ve successfully balanced study, performance, and cultural immersion before, and I’m fully prepared to tackle these hurdles again.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you’re unable to contribute financially, you can still support me by:
-
Sharing this campaign with your network
- Following my journey on social media and cheering me on
Every gesture helps me get closer to Sevilla and continue dedicating myself to flamenco. Thank you for believing in this path and helping keep this beautiful tradition alive.
